Drafting Behind Jesus
Few sports afford a spirit of freedom and adventure than cycling along a country road. The beauty of historic red barns, pristine pastures sprinkled with hay bales and horses free to roam. A gaggle of leisurely riders, enjoying friendly conversation while absorbing the spectacular sights.
Until they turn into a headwind.
Ease turns into effort.
Conversation into concentration.
Pleasure dwindles as heart rates rise.
What a perfect analogy of Jesus and His followers. When those riders form a single line, the leader alone battles the wind. When he tires, he breaks to the back and #2 takes the lead. “Two are better than one because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow.” Ecc. 4:9-10
If only we were willing to stay behind Jesus, our ride would surely be simpler. Imagine Him saying, “Get behind Me. Draft from me. Let Me tackle the headwinds. Follow Me down the difficult roads. “…for My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Matt. 11:30
