Praise Him with Your Plate

“Come and see what God has done.  How awesome His works on man’s behalf!”  (Ps 66:5)

I Timothy 6:17 reminds us that God “richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.”  Oh how He has extravagantly provided with culinary choices!  God’s generosity is vividly expressed by the plethora of possibilities for our plates.  Consider the combination of colors.

Red peppers.

Purple cabbage.

Deep green spinach, collards and chard.

Fruits from the tree, orange, yellow, green and red.

In every category , variety abounds.

Peanuts and pecans to pumpkin seeds, these nutritious nuggets first fed the ancient nomadic tribes.

Though wheat, oats and barley are familiar friends, amaranth, quinoa and rye add flavorful variety.

And beans!  Bravo beans!  Kidneys, chickpeas, Great Northern and baby blacks.  Different tastes.  Different textures.  Different dishes for different days.

Celebrate savory spices.  Fresh basil explodes our sauces.  Rosemary deepens meats.  Cilantro brings Mexican cuisine alive.  Not only is turmeric responsible for the flavor and yellow color of Indian curry, it has been used for medicinal purposes.  Both Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine use it as an anti-inflammatory, to treat digestive and liver problems, skin diseases, and wounds.  (RE: University Maryland Medical Center)

Come and see what the Lord has done!  How awesome His works on man’s behalf.

So given His generosity, when we sit to sup, give praise.

Ponderings:

1.       Do your plates give praise and appreciation to the Lord’s bounty?  Why or why not?

2.       Which of His bountiful gifts have you been ignoring?  What will be the first you will bring to your plate?

3.       Be a Buddy:  Make a bountiful dish and share with a friend to taste and see that the Lord is good.
